Project Guuleysi PDF Print E-mail

guuleysi.gifProject Guuleysi serves youth ages 6-18. Refugee boys and girls from Africa and new comers from other countries are the focus of this customized after school and in school initiative. These youth are at high risk for school dropout, recruitment to gangs, and other high risk behaviors. Named after the Somali verb for success, Project Guuleysi is about preventing these high-risk youth from finding their way to high-risk behaviors. Keeping these young men and young women engaged in structured, positive activities, addressing their academic needs, and working to strengthen their families is Guuleysi’s vision—a way to prevent trouble from finding these young people, and a way to help these young people find success—in school and life. Utah Federation for Youth provides all participants and families with a pdf Parent Handbook, and a pdf After School Handbook.

wow.jpgWonderful Outdoor World (WOW) is a unique program that introduces urban youth, ages eight to eleven, to outdoor recreation during a controlled and safe twenty-four hour camping experience.  Unlike other camping and recreation programs, WOW focuses upon bringing the wonders and excitement of camping to everyone.

The mission of WOW is to provide an introductory camping experience to urban youth in an effort to foster basic camping skills, enhance community values, create opportunity to make new friends, and encourage youth to further enjoy the outdoors.  Activities emphasize team-building and outdoor education with the goal of instilling a sense of ownership and responsibility and to encourage campers to continue to appreciate and care for the great outdoors.
