Spring Break for Guuleysi kids means one thing: the Spring Teen Retreat! While high school students are out of school for the week, we take the opportunity to bring in speakers, plan fun activities, go on outings, and spend extra time with our students!
This year, over forty students participated in our 3-day retreat. High-schoolers spent 10 hours in lessons and activities from Planned Parenthood and Cornerstone Counseling, made tie-dyed hats, shirts, and scarves ... painted a mural ... played hours of games with Guuleysi staff members, went bowling, and went out to dinner as a group.
The students were great participants, and when we asked what we could change about the Retreat for next year, most agreed ... “make it even longer!”
GYSD 2011 was a great success! Students from all over the Salt Lake Valley gathered to participate in service-learning projects that ranged from painting and donating a mural, to planting trees, to education others about environmental issues.
Students loved spending the day helping others and learning at the same time. We can’t wait for next year!
